Awards are ok...
Not the actual award itself because generally they’re pretty ugly and bulky and don’t match with my décor (vintage cottagecore eclectic in case you’re wondering), but the thrill of winning them. But nothing beats when a common non-advertising layperson references a piece of work I’ve helped create. When an uncle offhandedly mentions a Subaru commercial I wrote without knowing it. When mom friends organically share the work I made for both Sunnybrook and North York General Hospital because they feel seen and understood by it. When Matt Galloway invites me to speak on Metro Morning about #ChangeTheWorkClimate because it tapped into an unignorable cultural insight. Sure awards are great, but to me the real award (reward?) is seeing people who have nothing to do with advertising share and engage with work that came out of my brain. I’m narcissistic like that!
